Class 13

As I mentioned in class today, we will have a quiz next class on Units 9 and 12. You should study:
  • the vocabulary from Units 9 and 12 in the boxes at left
  • main ideas in paragraphs
  • stop doing / stop to do / try doing / try to do (p. 82)

To prepare, you can also do the two unit reviews (p. 94 and 113) and check your answers with the answer key I have provided in the blog entry below.

Don't forget that your Vocabulary Notebooks are also due next class. Make sure you have:

  • formatted it according to the guidelines on the back of the syllabus I gave you on the first class
  • pasted your Reading Rate Chart into the inside back cover of your Notebook
  • written your name in romaji on the cover.

Class 12

Next week (our last class of 2011) we will begin Unit 12. Please do Pre-Reading 1 on page 104 to prepare.

On our first class in the new year (January 6) we will have a quiz on Unit 9 and the first half of Unit 12. I will also collect your Vocabulary Notebooks on that day.

Our Listening Exam will be on the last class, Thursday January 12.

  • Units 6 and 8 vocabulary (in the lists at the left)
  • Main ideas in paragraphs (for example General Understanding p. 74)
  • "Used to" and "be used to" (p. 72 and class explanation)
  • Fact vs. Opinion (p. 75 and class explanation)
  • Do Unit 8 review (p. 77) and check the answers in this blog.

We will begin Unit 9 next week, so please also do page 78 to prepare.
