Class 13

As I mentioned in class today, we will have a quiz next class on Units 9 and 12. You should study:

• the vocabulary from Units 9 and 12 in the boxes at left
• main ideas in paragraphs
• stop doing / stop to do / try doing / try to do (p. 82)

To prepare, you can also do the two unit reviews (p. 94 and 113) and check your answers with the answer key I have provided in the blog entry below.

Don't forget that your Vocabulary Notebooks are also due next class. Make sure you have:

• formatted it according to the guidelines on the back of the syllabus I gave you on the first class
• pasted your Reading Rate Chart into the inside back cover of your Notebook
• written your name in romaji on the cover.

Our Listening Exam will be on the last class, Thursday January 12.

Class 11

Good work today. Next week we will do the second half of Unit 9, including another practice listening quiz.

Make sure to keep your vocabulary notebooks up to date: they will be due on January 6.

Thanks for all your hard work today, and I am sorry we had to cover so much material in such a short (1-hour) class. Since we didn't have time to do the Unit 8 review in class, I will include the answers in the next post on this blog.

Next week we will have a quiz on units 6 and 8. Here is what you should study:

• Main ideas in paragraphs (for example General Understanding p. 74)
• "Used to" and "be used to" (p. 72 and class explanation)

Please remember that our next class (November 11) will be a placement test, which will help determine what English classes you will study in the future at Fukuoka University. Be sure not to be absent or late from the next class.
